Fifth Wards Saints North Set to Launch Youth Sports Summer Camps

Camps to be Co-Sponsored by The Bails Team at Urban Acres Real Estate & UICCU Mortgage

As part of its ongoing effort to provide positive opportunities to the youth they serve, Fifth Wards Saints North will host two sports summer camps at the former Roosevelt Elementary School in Iowa City for area students in 4th – 7th grades. Two local companies, The Bails Team (Urban Acres Real Estate) and UICCU Mortgage, will fully sponsor all program participants to attend the camps this summer.  In addition to the sponsored campers, the two camps will be available for a fee to all youth (4th – 7th grades) in the area.

The first camp will focus on basketball instruction and games and will run from June 17th – July 12th.  There will be two sessions per day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 to 11:00 and 11:30 to 1:00.  The second camp will focus on football instruction and will be held on the Monday, Wednesday and Fridays between July 29th – August 9th.  Both camps will provide transportation and meals for sponsored campers as well as a structured environment to continue to promote the healthy lifestyle lessons the campers learn throughout the school year.

“Our team is excited to be partnering with the Fifth Wards Saints North on their sports camps,” Realtor Mike Bails of Urban Acres Real Estate said. “I have known Carlos since we were kids and he has worked extremely hard to organize a needed service in our area and we are happy we can play a small part.”

Ryan Doehrmann, Vice President of Mortgage Lending at the University of Iowa Community Credit Union, is another long-time friend of Honore who said, “It is awesome to be able to be part of such a great program that serves under-privileged students. Carlos has a big heart and I am glad we can do something to help.”

About The Fifth Ward Saints North

The Fifth Wards Saints North is a local Social-Emotional Athletic Development Program founded by Carlos Honore and his wife Tatum that uses sports to help build relationships and engage players and their families with community resources. Trusting relationships and a supportive environment allow players and their families to work through ongoing issues that may be negatively impacting the family system or performance at school.  The organization, in partnership with The Iowa City Community Schools, started an after-school program in August 2018 for 50 at-risk youth, and hopes to eventually impact up to 200 students per year.
