Wellman is a small town with a big heart for the community. Residents say the town’s community mindset is what attracts many new people to Wellman and persuades them to stay.
And good news—you won’t be bored once you’re there. Though Wellman has a population of around 1,500 residents, it has four parks and a golf course—one of only two sand green golf courses in Iowa. During the spring and summer, the parks’ lighted tennis courts, baseball diamonds, and band shelter come alive as residents enjoy the outdoors.
The Wellman Skating Rink draws crowds from all over the state with its maple floors, black light skate sessions, and fun events. There’s also the Parkside Activities Center, which offers professional childcare, a community activities room with a gaming console and pool tables, basketball and volleyball courts, a pool, and a health club.
Other notable town destinations are Bob’s Pour House, known for having the town’s coldest beer and more than 100 varieties of wine from Iowa wineries, and The Barn at Yoder’s Farm, a one-of-a-kind wedding and special event venue.
