Did You Know?
Did you know there are families in our community living in empty homes without beds or furniture? Houses into Homes is a nonprofit that provides beds, furniture, and household items to those in need in Johnson County. Most of these households have recently found housing after a crisis situation such as homelessness or domestic violence.
Houses Into Homes was formed after learning that students struggling to focus were tired and sore because they didn’t have a bed to sleep on so it started with collecting and delivering mattresses and box springs. Making these deliveries uncovered the reality that many of these homes were empty after a family starts over. The operation quickly expanded to furniture, dishes, pots and pans, linens, pillows, art, and toys, games and books for kids—the basics plus the little touches that make a comfortable and joyful home.
