Happy Spring from the Urban Acres Team! The spring season is full of transformations and new beginnings. With flowers blooming and temperatures rising, it’s easy to be hopeful of what’s to come. To share our enthusiasm for the start of spring, we’ve put together a list of 5 things to look forward to in the coming months!
Spending Time Outdoors
As temperatures rise, so do the opportunities to get outdoors. Restaurants open their patios for open-air seating, the ped mall is bustling, and local parks and trails are ready for visitors. Appreciate the beauty of spring in Iowa and take every opportunity to get outdoors!
Mission Creek Festival — April 4th–9th
Mission Creek Festival is an artistic experience you won’t want to miss. The 6-day festival, which takes place at various venues in Downtown Iowa City, celebrates the arts with music performances, literary readings, film screenings, public lectures, local food culture, and education outreach. With venues seating from 50 to 1800 people, the festival builds an intimate connection between the artists and audience.
Farmers Markets
With spring comes fair weather, flowers, and farmers markets! As temperatures rise, local farmers are able to start cultivating produce. Come May, locals can expect an abundance of early-season vegetables, delicious baked goods, and handmade crafts at various farmers markets in the Iowa City area. With markets happening nearly every day of the week from May–November, locals have an endless amount of opportunities to get their fresh-food fix. Check out the list of local farmers markets here.
EntreFEST — May 4th–5th
Taking place over two days in venues around Downtown Iowa City, EntreFEST is the largest gathering of Iowa’s entrepreneurial community. With over 100 experts in a variety of fields and disciplines leading keynote speeches, breakout sessions, and workshops, attendees can expect to receive valuable information and training on topics of innovation in industries including agriculture, design, nonprofits, health, education, advanced manufacturing, aging, financial technology, and more.
Parade of Homes — June 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 11, 2017
Every year the Home Builders Association displays present-day design trends, new home technology, and quality construction at the Iowa City Area Parade of Homes. This year is extra special, as it marks 50 years of this must-see event. Urban Acres is a big supporter of this event, and will be hosting the second-annual Urban Acres Parade of Homes Bike Ride on June 3rd. Join us for a fun day of biking, touring homes, and enjoying local food and beverages.
