Your 2026 Iowa City Summer Events Guide
Summers in Eastern Iowa fill up fast. Between the free outdoor concerts, community festivals, and annual warm-weather traditions, the June-through-August stretch melts away faster than a Heyn’s ice cream cone in July.Â
In this year’s guide, we’re covering the entire Corridor—Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, Solon, and Swisher. Whether you’ve been calling the area home for years or you’re still getting your bearings, there are plenty of events to get on your radar.
June EventsÂ
Iowa Arts Festival

When: June 5-7
Where: Downtown Iowa City (Clinton Street and Iowa Avenue)Â
The Iowa Arts Festival has been kicking off Iowa City summers for over 40 years. More than 100 local, regional, and national visual artists take over the streets around Clinton and Iowa Avenue for the weekend, alongside live music on the main stage, food vendors serving regional and ethnic dishes, and hands-on activities for kids.Â
Saturday and Sunday also feature the Emerging Artist Area, where visual artists ages 16–25 get their own dedicated space in the fair.
Downtown Summer Gallery Walk

Photo Credit: Iowa City Downtown District
When: June 5 from 5-8 PM
Where: Downtown Iowa CityÂ
The Gallery Walk lands the same evening as the Iowa Arts Festival’s opening night, so it’s easy to pair the two if you want to make a full Friday of it. Shops, galleries, libraries, and museums throughout downtown open their doors for a free self-guided tour.Â
Pick up a map at any participating location, and if you get it stamped at seven stops, you’re entered to win a gift card to Prairie Lights. A very Iowa City way to spend a Friday night.
Let Love Fly

Photo Credit: City of North Liberty
When: June 13, 11 AM-3 PMÂ
Where: Centennial Park, 1565 St. Andrews Dr., North LibertyÂ
The mega kites are back above Centennial Park, and the 2026 event is a bigger production than last year. New this year, the Iowa Raptor Project will be inside Hy-Vee Center with live raptor educational programming, and Forever Green is bringing a mobile butterfly house where over 100 butterflies fly free.
Food trucks, a DJ, and LGBTQ+ community organizations and sponsors will be on-site all afternoon. Organizers are giving away 400 free kites, or you can purchase your own from Great American Kites. All ages, free to attend.
Riverside Shakespeare Festival – A Midsummer Night’s Dream

When: June 12-28 (Thursdays-Sundays, 7:30 PM)
Where: Festival Stage, Lower City Park, 200 Park Rd., Iowa CityÂ
A Midsummer Night’s Dream—enchanted forests, mistaken identities, a guy with a donkey head—is about as well-suited to an outdoor summer stage as Shakespeare gets. The performances are free and professional, running Thursday through Sunday evenings at Lower City Park through the end of June.
Arrive a bit early to grab your seat.Â
Iowa City Pride Festival

When: June 20, Noon-9:30 PM
Where: Downtown Iowa CityÂ
Iowa City Pride is one of downtown’s most energetic days of the year. The Pride Parade kicks things off at noon, followed immediately by the vendor fair and full stage lineup on Washington Street, with performances, drag shows, live music, local businesses, action groups, and good food everywhere you turn.
Downtown Block Party

Photo Credit: Iowa City Downtown District
When: June 27, 3-10 PM
Where: Downtown Iowa CityÂ
Fourteen blocks of downtown Iowa City close down for the evening on one of the summer’s best free nights out. Dueling pianos, a silent disco, roller skating, kids’ street hockey, and performances are all free to attend, with cups available if you want beer or wine. All ages welcome.
July Events
Coralville 4thFest Concert

When: July 3, 6:30 PM
Where: S.T. Morrison Park, 1513 7th St., CoralvilleÂ

Bring chairs and blankets; the park has plenty of room to spread out. The show runs rain or shine.
Iowa City Jazz Festival

When: July 3-5
Where: Downtown Iowa CityÂ
The Jazz Festival is the same weekend as 4thFest, so if you’re staying in the Corridor for the holiday, you’ve got back-to-back live music from Friday through Sunday. Watch three days of performances by well-known jazz musicians and up-and-coming talent alongside national and international artists, with food vendors, artist booths, and a beverage garden downtown.Â
Stick around after Saturday’s headliner for a fireworks show over the Pentacrest.
North Liberty Blues & BBQ

Photo Credit: City of North Liberty
When: July 11
Where: Centennial Park, 1565 St. Andrews Dr., North LibertyÂ
Blues & BBQ sat out the summer last year while the new Hy-Vee Amphitheater was being built at Centennial Park. This summer it’s back for the 17th year, with a new stage and a full day of music.
The Main Squeeze headlines at 8:30 PM, with Kevin Burt opening on the new stage earlier in the day. The full lineup includes The Beaker Brothers, Jeni Grouws, The Finesse, Katie & the Honky Tonks, and Daniel Xavier & Co.Â
Live music starts at 11 AM. Kids’ inflatables and activities run from 10 AM–2 PM. Entry to the festival is free. There’s barbecue, craft beer, and sponsor booths throughout the day.
Solon Beef Days

Photo Credit: Mitch Fick/Iowa’s News Now
When: July 17-18
Where: Downtown Solon, 110 S. Dubuque St.
More than 50 years running, Solon Beef Days is still a great reason to get out of Iowa City for a summer weekend. The festival runs Friday evening and all day Saturday with live music, carnival rides, beef dinners, a fun run, bags and archery tournaments, and the hay bale toss competition that Hawkeye football players have been known to dominate. Proceeds support local scholarships and community projects.
Swisher Fun Days

When: July 24-25
Where: 2nd Street SW, SwisherÂ
Swisher Fun Days is a classic small-town summer festival that includes a vendor market, live music, food, horseshoes, bags, and a petting zoo, right off I-380. It’s worth the short trip if you haven’t been to Swisher before, and a good summer tradition to keep alive if you have.
August EventsÂ
Rock the Chalk

When: August 7, community activities from 5-8 PM (chalk artists working throughout the day)Â
Where: 102 S. Clinton St., Iowa CityÂ
Rock the Chalk turns the streets around MidwestOne Bank into an outdoor gallery for the day. Community members and local artists fill the pavement with chalk murals while live Iowa music plays.Â
Come by during the day to watch the pieces develop, then stay for the free community activities from 5–8 PM, including face painting, crafts, caricatures, and more live music.
Farm to Street Dinner

Where: North Linn Street, Iowa City Northside NeighborhoodÂ
The 10th Annual Farm to Street Dinner takes over Linn Street in the Northside, with a six-course communal meal prepared by local chefs using locally sourced ingredients. Share a table with others in the Iowa City community while enjoying a delicious meal and lively conversations underneath the glow of string lights and the setting sun.Â
While tickets are already sold out for the 2026 event, you can sometimes find them on local marketplaces if you’re patient and quick to the draw.Â
Farmer’s Table at Walker Homestead

When: August 5 (and monthly throughout the summer)Â
Where: Walker Homestead, Iowa CityÂ
If the Farm to Street Dinner sold out before you got your ticket, Walker Homestead’s monthly Farmer’s Table dinners are just as fun and delicious. Enjoy intimate, multicourse evenings on a working farm, with menus built around what’s in season that week and live music throughout the night.Â
Menus go up the week before each dinner; reservations required.

Taste of Iowa City

When: August 26, 4-8 PM
Where: Downtown Iowa CityÂ
The 18th Annual Taste of Iowa City is the summer’s final big downtown event. Tickets are only $1 and redeemable at 40+ bars and restaurants across downtown and the Northside. Six ticket booths are set up around the area, and UI students can grab a limited number of free tickets at the Pentacrest booth with a student ID. Most samples run 2–4 tickets each, so $20 gets you a solid evening of grazing.
The event coincides with Engaged Hawkeyes Week, so downtown will have extra energy. If there’s a restaurant you’ve walked past a hundred times and never gone into, this is the night to finally try it.
