Washington is one of the top agricultural areas in the nation. But don’t let its rural appearance fool you—Washington is a vibrant community with outstanding recreational opportunities, historical sites, community events, educational offerings, and healthcare options.
In 2008, Washington was recognized as a ‘Main Street Community.’ The town square is filled with unique retail shops and restaurants that surround Central Park in the downtown area—including Cafe Dodici, a destination for foodies across the state. Eleven blocks of the Washington Downtown Historic District and a number of homes in town are on the National Register of Historic Places.
Washington is also a great place to get outdoors. The 14-mile Kewash Nature Trail is a popular destination for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing along a backdrop of woodlands and prairie. Other area attractions include the State Theatre, named the world’s oldest continuously operating movie theater, and the Barn Quilts of Washington County.
